Competitive swimmers are widely acknowledged to perform high training volumes from a young age. It is not uncommon for competitive youth swimmers to train 12 – 18 hours per week. Presently, a popular topic in competitive swimming is low-volume, high-intensity training (HIT). HIT involves performing less meters (or volume) in the swimming pool however training is performed at higher intensities, closer to racing speed. This was the first review conducted in the area of HIT training for competitive swimmers. To date, the study has received in excess of 3800 reads across over 20 countries.
